Certifications and Programs - Home Energy and Building Envelope pillar

Also known as: Net Zero, CHBA Net Zero, Net Zero home

CHBA certification for homes built efficient enough that adding solar PV would zero out their net annual energy use. R-2000 envelope plus all-electric HVAC.

Net Zero Ready is the Canadian Home Builders Association's certification for homes built efficient enough that adding rooftop solar PV would offset their entire annual energy consumption. Requires R-2000 level envelope, all-electric HVAC (typically a heat pump), heat pump water heater, and pre-wiring for solar. Net Zero (without 'Ready') means the solar is actually installed and the home is producing as much as it consumes annually. Federal Greener Homes Loan covers the solar PV component up to $40,000 interest-free.
