How We Verify What's On This Site

Every number on this site gets checked against authority sources before we publish it. Every rebate amount, every regulation, every price range. If we can't back a claim with a real source, we don't make the claim.

When a program changes or a price moves, we update the article and stamp it with a new "Last verified" date. Not a touch-up to game Google, a real re-check of the key claims.

What we use for sources

Government and regulator pages first. NRCan, TSSA, the Ontario Energy Board, IESO, ESA, CMHC. Utility pages from Enbridge, Hydro One, and Toronto Hydro. Industry standards bodies like CSA, HRAI, and ACCA. Manufacturer product pages when we need specs on specific equipment.

We don't cite contractor blogs, comparison sites, or aggregator pages as evidence for anything. If a tier-one source doesn't back it up, it either comes out of the article or gets flagged as an estimate.

When numbers disagree

Sometimes two authoritative sources give different numbers for the same thing. Happens more than you'd think. When it does, we show you the range and tell you who said what. We don't pick a winner and pretend the other doesn't exist.

When we call out bad actors

Most HVAC contractors in Ontario are honest people doing hard work. We're not here to trash the industry. But some practices have been flagged by consumer protection authorities, like TSSA red-tag pressure tactics, contractors telling homeowners to pull their own permits, and high-pressure "today only" closes. When you're about to spend $10,000 on a system, you deserve to know what to watch for. When we name a bad practice, it's because an authority did first.

If we got something wrong

Email us at [email protected]. Tell us what claim, what article, and what you think the right answer is. We'll look at it and either fix it or reply with why we think it's right. That simple.
