Ontario Building Code Section 9.36: Energy Efficiency. Sets minimum insulation R-values, window U-values, and whole-building energy performance.
Section 9.36 of the Ontario Building Code is the energy-efficiency section, governing minimum insulation R-values by zone, window U-values, slab and foundation insulation, and whole-building performance pathways (prescriptive, performance, or trade-off). Updated significantly in 2017 (SB-12) and again in 2022 to align Ontario with national EnerGuide tiering. Compliance is documented at building permit application.
