Ontario Building Code: the provincial regulation governing construction, renovation, and HVAC installation standards. Section 9.32 covers residential ventilation.

The Ontario Building Code (OBC) is the regulation under the Building Code Act that governs all construction and renovation in the province. Section 9.32 covers residential ventilation requirements (HRV/ERV mandates, CO alarm placement, exhaust capacity). Section 9.33 covers HVAC equipment. Section 9.36 covers energy efficiency. Many municipalities require building permits for HVAC equipment swaps, particularly when ductwork, gas piping, or venting changes are involved.
