Annual ENERGY STAR designation for the top-performing equipment in each category. Often unlocks additional rebate amounts.
ENERGY STAR Most Efficient is an annual designation given to roughly the top 25% of ENERGY STAR Certified products in each category (heat pumps, water heaters, furnaces, ACs). The list is republished every January with that year's qualifying models. Some Save on Energy and federal Greener Homes program tiers reference the Most Efficient list directly for top-rebate eligibility. Manufacturers prominently feature the badge in marketing because it's the strongest efficiency signal available short of a certification body's own awards.
