TSSA
Regulations and Authorities - Consumer Protection pillar
Also known as: Technical Standards and Safety Authority
Technical Standards and Safety Authority. Ontario's regulator for fuels safety (gas appliances, propane, fuel oil) and several other technical safety domains.
The TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority) is the Ontario regulator that enforces the Fuels Safety Program. Every gas appliance install in Ontario, including furnaces, water heaters, boilers, and pool heaters, must be performed by a TSSA-certified G2 or G1 gas technician working under CSA B149.1. The TSSA also inspects after major work and investigates incidents. A handyman or non-certified install is both an insurance exposure (most home insurers will deny related claims) and a resale problem (home inspectors flag it).
