Global Adjustment
Regulations and Authorities - Ontario Rebates and Incentives pillar
Also known as: GA
A line item on Ontario electricity bills that recovers the difference between contracted generator payments and the wholesale market price.
Global Adjustment (GA) is the dominant cost component on Ontario commercial electricity bills and a hidden component embedded in residential rates. It recovers the gap between the wholesale market price and the contracted price the IESO pays generators (nuclear, gas, renewable, conservation). For residential TOU customers, GA is built into the displayed rates. For Class A commercial customers, GA is a separate monthly line item that varies based on each customer's contribution to the top 5 peak demand hours of the year (a system called peak shaving).
