Ductless Mini-Split

Equipment and Systems - Heat Pumps pillar

Also known as: mini-split, ductless heat pump

A heat pump system with no ductwork: an outdoor compressor connected by refrigerant lines to one or more wall-mounted indoor heads.

Ductless mini-splits skip the ducting and deliver conditioned air directly into each zone via wall-mounted, ceiling-cassette, or floor-mounted indoor units. Each indoor head is independently controllable. Ideal for additions, garages, basements, condos with no existing ducts, and zone-by-zone retrofits. Typical install: $4,500 to $7,500 for a single-zone, $8,500 to $18,000 for a multi-zone (2-4 heads). Most modern mini-splits are also cold-climate heat pumps and qualify for Save on Energy rebates.
