CFM
Metrics and Efficiency Ratings - HVAC Costs pillar
Also known as: Cubic Feet per Minute
Cubic Feet per Minute. The standard volumetric airflow measurement for HVAC equipment, range hoods, bath fans, and HRV/ERV units.
CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) is the standard airflow unit used throughout HVAC sizing. A residential furnace blower typically moves 1,200-1,800 CFM at full speed; a bathroom fan 50-110 CFM; a kitchen range hood 200-1,200 CFM; an HRV 80-200 CFM continuous. Manual D duct sizing translates Manual J's BTU loads into the CFM that needs to reach each room, which then sizes the duct cross-section.
