Bill 200
Regulations and Authorities - Consumer Protection pillar
Also known as: Bill 200 (Homeowner Protection Act 2024), Homeowner Protection Act
Ontario's Homeowner Protection Act, 2024. Made consumer-goods NOSIs retroactively expired as of June 6, 2024, and prohibited new NOSIs of this type.
Bill 200 (Homeowner Protection Act, 2024) is the Ontario legislation that responded to abusive HVAC rental practices. Effective June 6, 2024, all existing consumer-goods NOSIs (rental water heaters, furnaces, AC, etc.) were deemed retroactively expired. New NOSIs of this type are prohibited. The Act does NOT void the underlying rental contracts, which remain enforceable through PPSA registration against the consumer and credit reporting. Common misnaming: people often call this Bill 165, which is incorrect.
