Trane's mid-tier two-stage condensing gas furnace at 80% AFUE — entry point for the Trane lineup that no longer meets new-install code in Canada.
The Trane XV80 is a two-stage 80% AFUE gas furnace. As of 2020, Canadian Energy Efficiency Regulations require new gas furnaces to be 95% AFUE minimum, so the XV80 is no longer legal for new installations in Canada. Still found in many existing Ontario homes installed pre-2020. Replacement on failure must be a 95%+ condensing unit, which often requires a B-vent removal and PVC sidewall vent install ($800-$1,500 added cost).
