Mildly flammable A2L refrigerant replacing R-410A in many heat pumps starting 2025. ~78% lower GWP than R-410A.
R-454B is one of two principal R-410A successors (the other is R-32) being adopted across the residential HVAC industry from 2025 onward. It's classified as A2L (mildly flammable), which requires updated installation practices including leak-detection sensors and minimum room volumes for indoor units. GWP of approximately 466, about 78% lower than R-410A's GWP of 2,088. Carrier, Trane, Lennox, and others have committed to R-454B for their post-2025 heat pump platforms.
