R-410A
Technologies and Refrigerants - HVAC Costs pillar
Also known as: R410A
Hydrofluorocarbon refrigerant blend that has been the Ontario AC and heat pump standard since the early 2000s. Phase-out began January 2025.
R-410A is the HFC refrigerant blend that replaced R-22 (Freon) starting in the early 2000s and has been the dominant refrigerant in Ontario residential AC and heat pumps for over 20 years. Under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, R-410A is being phased out in favor of lower-GWP refrigerants like R-454B and R-32. Canadian regulations restrict the manufacture and import of new R-410A equipment effective January 2025, though existing equipment can continue to be serviced with R-410A through the equipment's lifespan. Pricing for R-410A service work is rising as supply tightens.
