ENERGY STAR for New Homes
Certifications and Programs - Home Energy and Building Envelope pillar
Also known as: ENERGY STAR New Home, ENERGY STAR home certification
NRCan voluntary certification for new homes built 20% better than the building code minimum. The most common above-code certification in Ontario.
ENERGY STAR for New Homes is Natural Resources Canada's voluntary certification for production-built homes that perform 20%+ better than the Ontario Building Code minimum. Requirements include blower door testing (target under 2.5 ACH50), HRV with balanced flow, ENERGY STAR HVAC and water heater equipment, and mandatory EnerGuide rating. About 30% of new Ontario builds carry the certification. Less stringent than R-2000 but more accessible and cheaper to certify.
